What People Don’t Get About Working in a Library

Back from a two-week vacation touring the various beaches in Nova Scotia; too cold to swim, of course, but lounging on the sand has its own rewards.  I came across this interesting project launched by The Atlantic, in which people are asked to write in about aspects of their job that members of the public do not understand.  This particular article features submissions from librarians.  I wonder if they have any submissions from academics?  I think that a number of people think we are over paid to sit around thinking lofty thoughts all day, and that we have the summers off. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been asked “are you working this summer?”
